I saw a show featuring Hawaiian ice cream parlors and unique ice cream on the islands. Know the name?

I cannot remember which channel it was on or when it was one. But I'd really like to get some resources and learn more about Hawaii's unique ice creams. Help me?

I could name 2 of my favorites.





Bubbies - just down from where I studied in UH Manoa. Its becoming more popular of late, and celebs such as Oprah has popularized it, and orders ice cream from Bubbies.





Matsumoto's Shave Ice - not really ice cream parlors, but its synonymous with Hawaii.

Reply:Vanessa is right. Waiola Shaved Ice is the BEST. Way better than the tourist trap, Matsumotos.

Reply:you probably saw matsumoto's shave ice... that's the more popular one. but if you want the really good one... the one that locals prefer... go to waiola shave ice. it's on waiola street near mccully... near waikiki. the ice is finely shaves that it doesn't feel like ice in your mouth. it's really really good.

Reply:Lapperts is one. But I think the one you should try is Goodie Goodie Ice cream which originated from Maui. Or better yet, I'll even give you the recipe.





Ingredients:


1 12 0z can evaporated milk


1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk


2 12 oz cans Sprite or 7 Up


4 12 oz cans strawberry soda (Diamond Head brand is originally used)





Directions:


Blend all ingredients. Pour in a deep plastic container with cover, and Freeze for 5 hours. Mix again with fork. Re-freeze. This can also be made in an ice cream maker to save time.
Reply:The one I saw was about snow-cones not ice cream. It was on Maui, they used beans in the bottom of the snow cone and there was a line around the block. Everybody was raving about it. Sorry I do not remember the name. You could look it up under places that have snow-cones in Maui.
Reply:Dave's Ice Cream makes some great island inspired ice cream as well as Lappert's Ice Cream.
