Kanani means "Beauty"

Kaimana means "Power of the Ocean"
Reply:I read the 10 answers posted before posting my own ... some of them are Not Hawaiian names. Just because they sound Hawaiian doesn't make them Hawaiian. Remember, Tahitian, Samoan and other South Pacific Islander words will be similar.

Hawaiian Alphabet consists only of 12 letters - A, E, I, O, U, H, K, L, M, N, P, W.

vay (way) - depends on who you learned your pronunciation from. Pre-missionary Hawaiians used the "way" pronunciation, post-missionary Hawaiians used the "vay" pronunciation ... for some reason the missionaries didn't like the W sound and preferred the V sound.

these are all literal translations -

Leilani - (lay-lah-nee) heavenly love (lei means love or beloved, lani means heavens or heavenly

Kanani - (kuh-nah-nee) the beauty

Nalani - (nah-lah-nee) the heavens or heavenly one

Kalei - (kuh-lay) the love or the beloved

Malia - (muh-lee-uh) loosely used form of Marie or Maria; could be used as Memory as it also means to recall or recollect.

Malie - (muh-lee-ay) calm, quiet, serene

Maile - (my-lee) native twining shrub, very fragrant and used in many celebrations

Lehua - (lay-hoo-uh) flower of the Ohia tree

Kamalei - (kah-mah-lay) beloved child

Kamalani - (kah-mah-lah-nee) heavenly child

Kamalii - (kah-mah-lee-ee) small or little child

Pualii - (poo-uh-lee-ee) same meaning as Kamalii

Pualani - (poo-uh-lah-nee) same meaning as Kamalani
